My recovery story has been a long and rocky one. Since early secondary school, I have been struggling with an eating disorder with the influence of social media, peers and I figured later, my childhood environment and experiences. Though my relationship with my parents has been close and great, I almost never gain recognition and appreciation from them. This has led me to subconsciously chase to be better and better to gain satisfaction and appreciation from the outside world in a lot of aspects, such as appearance, ability, studies etc.
I am grateful to have met my flatmate when I was studying abroad. She empathised with me, shared her own experience with me and guided me through my own journey. She taught me about self-love and kindness towards myself.
It is very important to seek help from the right person to open up yourself to in your recovery journey.
